Sister Patricia McCarron, SSND, Ph.D., Head of School, announced today that 40 students have earned regional recognition for this year’s
Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, some of whom received multiple honors. Overall, our students earned an unprecedented 91 awards in creative writing and fine arts categories. This marks the highest number of awards NDP students have received in the nine years the school has participated in the program.
Notably, 14 students received Gold Keys, which are considered the highest honor awarded during the regional round. Entries that win a Gold Key are automatically considered for National Awards, including Gold Medal, Silver Medal, and scholarship awards.
In addition, three students, Bella D. ’29, BiancaRose N. ’26, and Elisa R. ’27, earned American Voices Nominations for their writing. This distinction recognizes the top five submissions in each region of the country.
"We celebrate these students for their achievements as writers and artists in this highly competitive program," said Sister Patricia McCarron. "We are also extremely grateful to our teachers who help all of our students and who challenge and inspire them to reach the fullness of their God-given potential."
"In writing and art, we strive to help the students develop their own voices through pen and paint, and this contest encourages and allows them to share those voices with the world," added Erin McNamara, English Teacher and competition coordinator. "Many of these students are multi-year winners, demonstrating how the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Program has provided the opportunity for the students to pursue and grow in their creative endeavors over the years."

Sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards is the nation’s longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens in grades 7–12 in the nation. All works were blindly judged by local visual artists, novelists, poets, playwrights, educators, and editors. Each piece is judged based on originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice.
